Numbers, days and time appear in almost every real conversation: booking a table, catching a ferry, arranging a lesson. These are great words to learn early.

Days of the week
| Greek | Say it like | Day |
|---|---|---|
| Δευτέρα | dheftera | Monday |
| Τρίτη | triti | Tuesday |
| Τετάρτη | tetarti | Wednesday |
| Πέμπτη | pempti | Thursday |
| Παρασκευή | paraskevi | Friday |
| Σάββατο | savato | Saturday |
| Κυριακή | kiriaki | Sunday |
A memory trick: Δευτέρα means “second”, Τρίτη “third”, Τετάρτη “fourth” and Πέμπτη “fifth”. The week counts from Sunday as the first day, so the days line up with the numbers.
Telling the time
Ask Τι ώρα είναι; (ti ora ine), “What time is it?”. The answer starts with Είναι... (ine) followed by the hour. The exception is one o’clock, which uses the feminine μία.
| Greek | Say it like | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Είναι μία. | ine mia | It is one o’clock. |
| Είναι δύο. | ine dhio | It is two o’clock. |
| Είναι τρεις. | ine tris | It is three o’clock. |
| Είναι τέσσερις και μισή. | ine tesseris ke misi | It is half past four. |
| Είναι πέντε και τέταρτο. | ine pende ke tetarto | It is quarter past five. |
| Είναι έξι παρά τέταρτο. | ine exi para tetarto | It is quarter to six. |
Practise it
Try saying out loud what day it is today, what time it is now, and when your next appointment is. Small daily habits like this turn lists into real knowledge. When you are ready, a tutor can help you book, plan and chat about your week in Greek.
